Monthly Business Meeting |
| |
Meeting was called to order by our Grand Knight at 7:05pm with an "Our Father" and the "Pledge of
Allegiance".
Members Present: Grand Knight Ryan W., Financial Secretary Dave Y., Loren M., Rod R., Dan H., Tom M., Jack D., Bryce M., and Past Grand Knight Greg K.
Guests: District Deputy Tony S. and Field Agent Jeff S.
Fincial Secretary's Report: Dave Y. reported that we have gotten the annual Assessment, and the amount due is $235. We have 50 Associate members, 33 Insurance members, and 3 Inactive members, for a total of 86 members. This shows a gain of 1 member - we still need 5 to meet our member quota. We have a gain of 3 Insurance members, and we have met our quota here. He then noted that he needed some help with the member dues letters, and the Grand Knight said he would be happy to help after the meeting.
Reporter's Report: Reggie W. reported that the website has the minutes, and everything is up to date. He would like the members to know that if there are pictures taken at the events, he would appreciate getting a copy so they can be included with the information on the website.
District Deputy's Report: Tony S. congratulated the Council on meeting the Insurance membership quota. He stated that we were well on the way to obtaining the Star Council award, that we just needed to recruit 5 new members. He mentioned that the District Free Throw contest was to be held on Feb 13, at the Believer's Together Center in Moline after the 9:30 Mass. He also reminded us that the District meeting was to be held at the Pizza and Subs in Rock Island on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
Field Agent's Report: Jeff S. was able, with the help of Dan H., to obtain the parish roster, and will be contacting men in the parish about becoming Knights. He said that 100 billable members makes for a viable council. He would like to have a major degree ceremony held in the region, either in April or in the Fall. The cost would be shared by all the 5 councils in the region, and could be held on a Saturday or a Sunday. The Council should have received a CD and booklet with the new information about the 1st Degree ceremony, which our Grand Knight agreed that we have received the information. There then ensued a discussion on the degree ceremony parts - for both the 1st Degree and the Major Degree. Jeff said a concerted effort to get new members is all we should need, as well as organizing the facility,. which he said he was impressed with the facility here at St. Malachy's.
Greg K. said our Free Throw Contest would be at the Community Center at 2:00 on January 30th. He said that preliminary indications are that we could have as many as 50 individuals.
Our Grand Knight said that there would be a major degree in Canton, IL. He also mentioned that there was another on Feb. 20, put on by the Fr. Merrywether Council in Utica, IL.
This Sunday, we are going to need the help of our fellow knights in serving Pancakes at the Henry County Right-to-Life Breakfast, from 8:00am to 12 noon. We are also going to be setting up for the event on Friday afternoon at 4:00, for anyone who is able to help at that time.
Our meeting was closed with a "Hail Mary" at 7:35pm.

Any third degree knight is eligible to hold an office, and he would like some members to step forward for any of the vacant offices, which include Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Warden, and Advocate. A description of their duties can be found on the members page. Marv S. stepped forward and volunteered for the Advocate position. Ryan stated that his main goal in filling the officers was to be able to host a Major Degree, and have all the positions for hosting the First Degree, also.
It was announced that the next meeting in March, March 8th, will be a Chili Supper. All members are to bring a can of Chili to share.
The Field Agent stated he was very happy that we have met our Insurance goal. He presented the council with 4 new form 100's for new members, which were approved by the Council unanimously.
After asking for anything for the "Good of the Order", the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 with a Hail Mary.

Grand Knight's Report: The Grand Knight's report was presented by the Deputy Grand Knight, Dan H. The Major Degree Ceremony was the topic at the top of the report. There is to be a practice for the first degree ceremony on Friday, October 21st at 6:30pm. In his report, the Grand Knight stated that he needed to check with the other councils as to the number that would be attending.
We will be canvasing for new members after the masses this weekend. If you attend any of the masses, please offer your support. A discussion was held on getting new members into our Council. The District Deputy stated that he would bring robes and medallions to the Ceremony. He said that 6 or 7 councils would be bringing candidates for the ceremony.
Two new candidates form 100s were read in and the candidates approved. A discussion was held on the cost for new members and how that cost broke down - between the council and state.
Treasurer's Report: Brice stated that he had got the form for the tax-id, and that we were up-to-date with reports - although he stated that he didn't file them as timely as he would have liked. We have $1400 in the checking account, and $500 still in the other bank saving account.
Tootsie Roll Chairman's Report: Bryce stated that we were at $700 for the weekend. He was still trying to sell the leftover candy, if anyone would like to get some. Next year, the drive will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 & 15 in the cities.
Right to Life Chairman's Report: Loren reminded everyone that we will be holding the Right-to-Life Coffee and Donuts after the Sunday Masses. The calls will be made to ask for donations of baked goods and/or money.
Soccer Challenge Chairman's Report: Dave said that there was a good turnout of volunteers, but there were only 6 challengers. 5 of the 6 were District Champions and would be moving on to the next level. He has some new ideas for next year. Everyone got medallions. He also stated that there would be an announcement in the paper this week. He wondered if next we could turn it into a family Picnic also, which would give the contestants something to do while they were waiting for their bracket.
Financial Secretary's Report: We have 90 members at this time. Our goal is 6 new members (we have 0 now), but we have 3 signed and read Form 100s. Our Insurance target is 3, and we have 1 at this time. We do NOT owe any money to Supreme. He wanted to know if there was any interest in sponsoring essay contests in either Substance Abuse or Catholic Citizenship. We are to be thinking on this before the next meeting. We will be having a Council level Free Throw Contest in January, with the District contest in February of 2012.
Old Business: Any news on the Pancake Machine? Dave said that he could possibly get Alcoa to help with something. Tom M volunteered his shed for building the machine. Ryan stated that he knows someone that might be able to do some of the soldering.
New Business: Dan H turned in a Form 100 for his son, and possibly has another.
Field Agent's Report: He was encouraging about holding the Major Degree Ceremony. There would be an opportunity to hold this every 2 or 3 years. He also encouraged everyone to attend the new ceremony.
District Deputy's Report: He also encouraged all to attend the new ceremonies - the new 3rd degree is different, and encouraged all 3rd degree members to see the new ceremony. By holding this ceremony, it puts the council in a positive light. He would be presented the Star Council award at the dinner following the ceremony.
"Good of the Order": Jack D. still needs our prayers, as he is finishing his treatments.
The meeting was adjourned at with a Hail Mary.
Respectfully submitted, Reggie W., Recorder.

Grand Knight's Report: The Grand Knight began with a report on our Major Degree ceremony. We had 7 new first degree Knights and 14 that took the 2nd and 3rd Degrees. Our Degree team did a good job. The food was good, also. We had many compliments. At the dinner, we received our Star Council award from the District Deputy. A discussion was held about needing a place to show our awards, and maybe a bulletin board to announce upcoming events. We should also place announcements in the Church bulletin.
Our next meeting (Dec. 13th) will be a Chili Supper!. Please bring a can of chili to share, and enjoy a meal with your fellow Knights. We will be meeting at 6:30pm for the meal, with the business meeting to follow.
He asked if anyone had any "Keep Christ in Christmas" magnets left. Tom M. stated that there were about 20 left. The Grand Knight asked if the membership was interested in selling a new product, pins that state "It's OK to tell me Merry Christmas". After some discussion, it was decided to order 200 of the pins to pass out after masses during advent.
Sometime in January, we have been asked to help with a Pancake Breakfast. The membership was all agreeable to that.
Right-To-Life coffee: The chairman stated that calls were made to the membership asking for donations and help in serving. We received plenty of help and plenty of baked goods. We made $412.55, which was split between the Women's Choice center in Bettendorf and The Crisis Pregnancy Center in Davenport.
Treasurer's Report: None
Financial Secretary's Report: We have a membership goal of 6 new members, and we have 3 going after the Degree ceremony. We have an insurance goal of 3, and have 2 - we need 1 more. Overall, we have 96 members, with 53 of the being associate members, 37 insurance members, 3 inactive members, 2 Honorary members, and 15 Honorary Life members. A question was asked about the gift for the church secretary - Dave had forgotten about it, but will get it taken care of.
Dave presented information from the Degree Ceremony held on Oct. 22nd. He stated that it went extremely well, and we had a great turnout. There were 4 councils that sent people 7 for the 1st degree and 6 more who took the 2nd and 3rd degrees. He gave the breakdown of the councils who sent candidates for degrees. We had 3 new 1st degree candidates who became knights in our council. We spent $515, brought in $120, and spent another $120 on the supper. The net cost was $395, which will be billed to the 5 councils in our district (after checking with the District Deputy about the financial responsibility of the councils).
Old Business: No Old Business was presented.
New Business: No New Business was brought forward.
Field Agent's Report: No Report.
District Deputy's Report: No Report.
"Good of the Order": None brought forward.

Recorder's Report: The report of the minutes was approved. You can find the minutes for the meeting above.
Financial Secretary's Report: There is nothing new to report as far as Supreme. We have a membership goal of 6 new members, and we have 3. We need 3 more new members, so talk to your friends and fellow
parishioners about becoming a knight. We have an insurance goal of 3, and have 2 - we need 1 more. We will be having our Family cookout and picnic, and a ceremony honoring our Honorary Life and our Honorary members on June 16th. Please keep this in mind. The gift for the church secretary was presented to her. She was very appreciative.
Dave has all the Major Degree Ceremony statements together, and will be mailing them out soon.

Knight Rod R. presented $40 for "Keep Christ in Christmas" magnets that had been sold. He also stated that he had found the Founding Plaque, and was going to talk to Father and Greg, the Custodian, about a place where it (and other information) could be shown. He also mentioned that he had talked to someone at Steve's Construction. They have a pancake grill that we can use. They only ask that they get a free breakfast for its use. We are planning to use it for a pancake breakfast in April. We will be checking with the church as to the date.

He would like representation from all the councils, since it is good time to share what is going on in each council. The District Free Throw Contest will be held in February. Also, make sure that we have submitted the Tootsie Roll form and money to state, and submitted the Requisition for Charities so we can get our money back. Finally, we need to be sure that we have form 1728 filled out.
"Good of the Order": None brought forward.
The meeting was adjourned at with a Hail Mary.
